We’d spent the night naked, watching movies and cuddling in bed. It was a long weekend and we planned to take it off and just relax. Our plans last night hadn’t gone as we’d expected. After a few heavy yawns, we’d fallen asleep in each other’s arms.

This morning I’d woken up to the sound of the shower running and the sun already up.

It was peaceful. More so than my little two-bedroom apartment. For it being the city, you couldn’t hear the blare of the car horns, or the chitchat coming from the people walking about outside. It was quiet, peaceful. You could hear the blowing of the wind and the singing of the birds that stayed behind in the winter.

Rolling onto my side, I glanced out the window that was on his side of the bed. It faced the center of the community where a small park was placed for the children to play in.

Something in my belly fluttered at the thought of kids. Often, I thought about one day settling down to have my own, giving up the life of a ballerina to be a mom, and none of that had really seemed possible until now.

Jack had told me to think about our future and what I wanted, and we’d spoken more about it, but my mind had already been made up. I wanted this. What we share was a once in a lifetime thing. I couldn’t just let that fade away.

“Enjoying the view?” Jack asked, walking out of the master bathroom with a towel around his waist.

“I am now.” My view of him in nothing but a towel was better than the sight of the sun glaring off the snow-covered treetops. Each day I got the chance to look at him, Jack only seemed to grow more and more devilishly handsome.

He made me want to quit this job, just leave it all behind and start a new life with him.

That didn’t sound bad at all, the only problem with that was the responsibility we took on as dancers. The posters were going to be made next week and placed all over town to help with the hype of the show.

Jack and I had to go for a photoshoot for it; we’d already been sized for our outfits and they’d already aired on the radio our names.

Maybe soon…

“You look stressed,” Jack said, interrupting my thoughts. I gave him a half-lip tilt. I wouldn’t call what I was feeling stress, it was just that my priorities were shifting.

Not many women my age continued to dance professionally. I was just the one that had stuck it out in hopes of fame and good fortune.

After landing the lead for this production, I’d finally come to realize I didn’t want to keep being disparaged by the younger women. I was getting older and there was nothing wrong with that. Dancing the lead had been a lifetime goal, and now that I’d achieved that, my mind was focused on what came next. My future. One that involved Jack.
